Feeling Festive

Do you like the look of the new blog? Adam and I watched Elf the other day and it inspired me to spruce this thing up for the holidays. I think it came out quite cute. Be sure and watch the animation too - that part took me awhile! LOL

Scrap News

Did you all pick up your copy of the DST newsletter? I hope so since I was up till 3am two nights in a row trying to get everything working - it was total craziness! hehe. No really, I think this might be the best issue yet. It's jam packed with information...and coupons! Six pages of coupons! I might actually go back and read through this one - usually by the time I'm finished putting everything together I'm just sick of looking at it and never actually get around to reading it. But this time I actually might - it's THAT good.

Oh and I've finally updated my desigining blinkies! Both Lyndsay Riches and Leah Riordan stepped down from designing a few weeks ago, which happened to be perfect timing for me. So I'm now a proud member of Zoe Pearn's team over at Sweet Shoppe Designs. I just love her stuff so I'm so excited she chose me! I'm now also a Shoppe Girl for The Digi Shoppe! I'm really excited about this one, I get to work with a new designer's stuff every two weeks! And on top of that, all of the ladies there are super talented and tons of fun. I'm really honored they chose me!

Homeward-Bound

In non-scrapping news, it's almost time for the big move back to the States! Adam and I move out of our apartment and into a hotel 3 days from now and then 3 days after that, I'll be on a plane back to the States. It's a little sad to be leaving our home for the past year, especially since this was our first place with just the two of us. But I think we're both ready to get on with things and start a new adventure. I am so incrediably excited about where we're heading next!

Layout Time!
I was busy last week! All of a sudden I had a bunch of scrapping-mojo and finsihed up I think like 3 layouts in two days, which for me is fairly fast. Not so much because I am slow on each one, just that I tend to take a lot of time inbetween each one. I don't know why that is exactly, it just seems to be how my process works. But below are some of the most recent layouts. You can find all the credits, along with all my other layouts, here, at my DST Gallery. Ok, here we go!

So the first two are from the DigiDares blog. I really love doing the prompts as I feel like they push me to do things I normally wouldn't. Unfortunately I'd fallen way behind in doing them because I kept messing up the weekly deadline, thanks to the time zone difference. So I've quit worrying about getting them finished every week and have just decided I'll go along at my own pace. So these are two that I finished recently.

This next one was just a fun layout I did. I love this little ghost and really felt inspired to showcase him. I think it came out really cute!

And last, but not least, Thanksgiving! Adam and I made our own meal for just the two of us and it was sooo good! Best turkey I have ever had, I swear! The photos are of our actual meal - I'm really surprised at how they came out considering as I was taking them, I was thinking, these are going to be the lamest photos ever, I doubt I'll even use them. It's amazing what a little Photoshop can do! LOL

That's all I've got for now. Adam and I are working on cleaning up the apartment today and then tomorrow we'll get around to sorting out what the movers are taking. Fun times!

Just a quick note!

The DST October Newsletter is finished! You don't want to miss it!

And since Holly is this month's DST featured designer, I had the chance to do a layout with the kit before it was released, woohoo! So here's my layout:

I like it but it hasn't gotten as much love in the gallery as I thought it would so who knows! hehe

Anyway, I've got to get to bed since we leave for Japan in the morning. The weather forecast is for rain most of the week so please send me some good weather vibes!

Until I return...

Someone get that man a bottle!

So Adam and I attended the finals of Military Idol last night. Let me tell you, the first two acts terrified me. They were soo, soo, sooo bad. Seriously. I couldn't help but feel sorry for them though, especially when the judges were basically telling them they sucked. Which while they absolutely did, I still felt bad people were saying it to their face! I think I must be getting soft in my old age LOL. But lucky for those of us watching the show, the other three acts were pretty good. The girl that won was from Adam's unit so everyone in our little area was pretty pleased about that. As the winner she receives $500 (in the mail, apparently. They also send her tape to the states and if she's chosen she gets to travel back to the states to perform. Who knew it was such a big thing! lol Oh and if you're wondering about my post title, that was yelled at one of the judges by a drunk guy who didn't like one judge's comment. I found it pretty entertaining.

Other than that, it's been a pretty uneventful weekend so far. I spent most of today working on the DST newsletter. Still kind of confused as to what happened to the deadline of the 26th considering it's almost the 1st here and we're still waiting on stuff. *sigh* Really makes me appreciate just how hard the Aggie editors worked. But despite all that I highly recommend you check out this month's issue. Holly's kit is gorgeous, you won't want to miss it!

So I'm going to get my haircut tomorrow. I'm scared! I had Adam make me an appointment because I knew that if it was left up to me, I would never go. Of course Adam didn't exactly boost my confidence when he said that my appointment is more than likely under the name "Jac" since they didn't understand him when he was giving them his name LOL. Umm, yeah, please send good vibes my way at 10am my time. I'm thinking I'm going to need them.

Well that's all I've got for now. I've got to get back to finishing up the newsletter and get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day of packing, cleaning and general preperation for Japan! Later!

I met a 4-star general today!

I really did! General BB Bell, who is the commander in charge of all of USFK. I had agreed to go to a spouses' luncheon today because Adam called me saying they needed someone to go. He'd told me it was FRG related so I wasn't really too excited about going. But it ended up not being too bad! The general went around to each table so we all got to shake his hand and introduce ourselves. Then he and his wife gave some short speeches about how awesome we are for being military wives and the sacrifice of that. Then they opened up the floor for questions and any issues we had. Most of the issues weren't really anything too major: not enough parking at the schools, why some people get cars when others don't, that kind of thing. Nothing I would consider earth-shattering in terms of importance. But we did get a free lunch out of the deal as well as the general's coin. I'm pretty sure Adam is jealous that I got one, since when I showed him, he was all "Aww, you got the good one!" LOL It just looks like a fancy coin, if you ask me. ;) So yeah, that was my excitement for today.

Oh I've been tagged! Melanie tagged me which means that I have to follow these rules and then tag other people. Since I can't think of anyone that hasn't already been tagged in my limited number of blogs that I read, I'll just leave it open ended. If you'd like to be tagged, consider yourself tagged. ;) Here's what you have to do:

List 5 weird things about yourself or your pets. (Am I the only one that thinks it's weird you'd write about your pets? Like you don't have a self to write about? hehe)
Tag 5 friends and list them.
Those people need to write on their blogs about 5 weird things, and state the rules, and tag 5 more people. Don't forget to let the people you tag know by posting a comment on their blog! Here are my weird things:

1. I hate green beans.
2. I'm really picky about food texture. I usually dislike something for the texture more than the taste.
3. I'm originally from Hollister, CA. (Like the store, but not. The beach is at least 30-45 minutes away and as far as I know there is no surf or ski club. Oh, but my sister's friend did have someone ask her where she got her super cool "hollister P.E." shorts LOL)
4. I don't like Korean food. I personally don't think this is weird but based on the reaction I get here apparently it is.
5. Adam says I can't leave a glass of water empty - I always leave like a quarter of an inch left. Like the girl in the movie Signs. But I don't think it's to ward off aliens. hehe

I did finish up a new layout last night which is one of my favorite's I've done lately. It uses Holly's new Pep Talk kit which you can find here at PDW. I'd been planning on doing something with these photos and then when I saw she was releasing that kit I knew the colors would go perfectly with the photo. So here it is:

Pretty, isn't it?

And I promised I'd be bringing something new to the blog so I figured I'd go ahead and unveil it. Drum roll please...ok so it's not really that exciting...but you know what it is...

Spiffy, no? So since the new TV season is getting into full swing I thought I would start a new section of my blog to rant, rave, or praise the various shows that I watch. I usually do it as I'm watching but it tends to bug Adam. hehe So yeah, should be fun, I hope. LOL

Ok first up, Gilmore Girls! The first episode aired this week and I had prepared by watching the last season last week. Yeah, I'm a dork like that. LOL But does anyone else thinks it's weird how adament Lorelai is about it being over with Luke? I get that he didn't make a decision right away but sheesh, a day later seems like it should be close enough. Oh well, since this is probably the last season, my guess is they'll drag it out for awhile and it will end with Lorelai ending up with someone. Who is anyone's guess.

Ok that's all I've got for now. Till next time...

Lazy Weekend

Nothing too exciting to report about this weekend. Adam had to pull duty at the hospital front desk all Friday night so he spent quite a bit of Saturday sleeping. Sunday we made a quick trip to Itaewon to get a couple of beanies for Susan, as requested. Apparently she thinks it's going to be cold or something in Chicago, hehe. But for $3 each you can't really beat the price and they come in a bunch of cute colors. So I got her one green one and one blue and I think they'll work out pretty well. The only sad thing is it will probably cost me more to ship them than it did to buy them. Oh well, anything to keep little Susan warm, hehe.

So last night Adam convinced me to attend an FRG meeting on post. (That's the Family Readiness Group, for you non military folk.) I had been involved in the group as the publications chair up until the group went defunct back in April. Our FRG leader at the time basically got frustrated after we had 60+ people show up for the Easter Egg hunt and then no-one show up at the next meeting. After that she pretty much quit trying to get anything done, and I can't say I blame her since I was pretty annoyed by the whole situation as well. Way to help support the cause people. But now there's a whole new set of commanders in charge so hopefully they'll be able to turn things around. I said I'd be willing to help if they needed me, although I always feel weird at these things since I am by far the youngest wife that attends. So we'll see, hopefully it will work out well.

And I promised I would come back with some layouts for you so here they are. None of them are really new but I hadn't posted them on here yet so I thought I would go ahead and do that, assuming Blogger cooperates. First up is a fun layout of Adam that uses Lyndsay Riches' Floral Fresh page kit which can be found here at PDW.

I made this next one for the first challenge at We Digi Dare Ya, the new digital dare blog. I'm pretty sure they're on Dare #4 now and so far I've only done one, so I'm a little behind. But I love the concept of it and it was created by a great group of girls so I highly recommend you check it out. You can find it here. And here is my layout for Dare #1:

This next one I made for the Digi Chick sketch challenge which you can find here. The papers and elements are from Leah Riordan's Geek Chic kit, which I love. My favorite part by far is the photos though which I used Holly McCaig's new Purty Pics black and white actions on. These are my favorite actions of hers so far, they made the photos look so cool! You can snag them yourself here.

And last, but certainly not least, is a layout using Jen Caputo's sketch from the last DST newsletter. I figure since I'm part of the newsletter team I should probably take the time to do a layout with it. So here it is. It uses Holly's new Ain't No Sunshine papers which you can find here. Aren't they pretty?

Ok well that's all I've got for now. Be sure to tune in next time for an exciting new weekly feature!

Bad Blogger!

My poor neglected blog. I am so bad about updating this thing. I really should work on that...

So last weekend Adam and I decided to take in a little culture in the form of...Oktoberfest! Exciting, huh? Friday night the Dragon Hill Lodge on post held a whole event complete with arm wrestling, nail hammering and the Chicken Dance! I'm not exactly convinced the Chicken Dance is truly authentic but it was quite amusing to watch, given how much beer some of the people had had before hand. There was also a raffle where they gave away a round trip ticket to the States. Sadly I didn't win, which means I will continue to collect my pennies so I can return home. Now for your viewing pleasure a couple of pictures:

I know this looks oh so real, but I swear we have not left Korea. ;)

The event took place in this big tent behind the hotel. I thought the flags and pretzels on trees were a nice touch.

Here's Adam enjoying his food. Appetizing, huh? hehe

I stuck with a safer choice for dinner: waffles, strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!

Sunday we went to an authentic Korean 1st birthday party for Adam's commander's daughter. For those of you that don't know, in Korean culture the first birthday is a big event since back in the day, many children didn't live to see their first birthday. As part of the ceremony, the child is asked to choose from a variety of items which symbolize their future. At this party they included two extra items - a computer mouse for "computer knowledge" and a microphone for a "pop star." Guess what item the little girl picks? The microphone! She's going to be a pop star! LOL I don't know if that's a good or bad thing but I found it highly amusing. Now onto my favorite photo from the party:

This just proves that you are never too old for birthday hats and noisemakers! hehe And look, it's even a Spongebob hat - perfect!

Ok I think that's all for now! I do have a few layouts to share but I think I'll save those for another post. Have a nice day!
